History of the Lockrey Company

The Lockrey Company was started in 1940, by A.J. Lockrey in College Point, New York. Here is where he developed a liquid molybdenum-base lubricant for extreme temperatures, pressures & speeds. The company was first to develop a way to keep Molybdenum or Moly suspended in a liquid state without separating and keeping its consistency in a liquid form.

LIQUID-LOCKREY-MOLY: Provides a means for the first time of utilizing the remarkable lubricating properties of molybdenum in conventional methods. Its extremely low coefficient of friction compared to oils and greases reduces the heat build-up in bearing-surfaces subject to extreme friction conditions in a fraction of that of oil, and the fact that its a solid eliminates the question of  “film strength” entirely and cannot be “squeezed out” of any bearing under any conditions regardless of pressure or temperature. The Molybdenum or Moly is carried to the friction surfaces, where the friction between metals causes the Moly to “plate out” and adheres firmly to the friction surfaces that it can not be removed, as it is not consumed, burned up or worn out in the same manner as oil.

By 1950, the Lockrey Company had developed many products that were being used by the Military and Aerospace. Lockrey Company was the liquid Original Moly founded in 1950. A.J.  Lockrey and company continued to develop many other new products over the years.

In 1984, the complete Lockrey Company moved from College Point, New York to the state of New Jersey where Moly based products continued to be made and manufactured. This includes thread compound, greases and various liquid types for all lubrication needs. For machining, wire & deep drawing or rolling, automotive and aviation, sub-zero work for the lubrication industry and continued to be used by the Military and Aerospace.

In 2016, the main office part of the Lockrey Company moved to Salisbury, North Carolina. At this new location Billing, Correspondence, Information & Pricing along with availability of products and MSDS datasheets, will be supplied upon request by the Salisbury office.
